Joshua came running into the house one afternoon, crying and whimpering due to fire ant bites all over his feet. Dr. "mom" immediately went to my homeopathic kit and quickly pulled out the Apis and administered 3 little white tablets. Minutes later, he was still complaining of the pain and he said he wanted ice on his feet. Aha! I knew I had given the wrong remedy because wanting it cold is a symptom of Ledum. I wasn't sure about giving another remedy so close together, but I knew he wouldn't get relief if I didn't. Within minutes he was very comfortable and playing again.
Once again, homeopathy saved the day! Anyone who has had success with homeopathy is amazed at what those "little white sugar pills" can do! They truly are miracle workers for acute cases, sometimes bringing relief within minutes. That's what I like about homeopathy...it works fast and it doesn't do any harm! How many over-the-counter or prescription drugs can you say the same thing about??
This won't be a discussion on the whole subject of homeopathy....that takes pages (& books) to explain. But it operates on the "law of similars" in that like cures like. Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician in the 1800's, did extensive work in this field of medicine and discovered that substances in small doses stimulate the body to heal that which they cause in overdose. In other words, say a person comes in contact with poison ivy and has a reaction. The same substance that causes the outbreak in a big enough dose, will stimulate the body to heal if given in a minute dose. So the cure for poison ivy is....you guessed it, Rhus Toxicodendron or Poison Ivy. A really good and easy book that we use is, "Everybody's Guide to Homeopathic Medicines" by Stephen Cummings, M.D. and Dana Ullman, MPH.
If you have kids, you gotta have homeopathic remedies. They just go together...like PB& J sandwiches! My rough and tumble boys are always getting a goose-egg bump on the head, really painful bruises, fire ant bites and mosquito bites. And it's so portable! We have a travel size kit that we take in the car. It really came in handy a few months ago when we were looking at land for sale. James walked up a ramp, running his hand along the top. Unbeknownst to him, there was a wasp nest underneath the rail that he disturbed. The wasps came out mad, he panicked and they attacked. We weren't far from the car and in less than a minute he had been given the remedy for his symptoms and was getting relief. Homeopathic remedies also work great for the cold and flu season as well. In fact, there is probably a remedy for just about anything imaginable. Does homeopathy work for chronic conditions too? Yes, but that is a little trickier to figure out.
So is there something to those "little white sugar pills"? Definitely! We'll never leave home without them!
