We are blessed to be together for most of our mealtimes every single day, usually all of us for at least two meals of the day.  Our most recent table talk is, "What kind of dog should we get for the farm?"  We will probably have several dogs for different purposes, but the question we deal with now is THE FAMILY DOG.  The one who will be a loyal friend to the boys, keeping them out of trouble, guarding the home at night, etc.

Of course, each boy has a different opinion as to what breed of dog they want, so they are keeping the library books checked out on their favorite dog breed of the week!  Other considerations are what age of dog should we get, should it be a purebred or a shelter rescue, how do you train a dog, what type of food will this dog eat and how will we buy it or raise it (an organic farm does have a few considerations to make regarding dog food!...if WE aren't going to eat dead processed food, we can't feed that stuff to our dogs either and expect them to remain healthy!) and on and on the table talk goes!  Of course, mom and dad have to put in their wise words of wisdom of WHO will train the dog, WHO will be responsible to feed and care for the dog, WHO will brush the dog if it's long-haired...

I thought it would be fun to get opinions from those of you reading this!  If you have a particular dog breed that you think would be a good farm and companion dog for our family, post a comment.  We'd love to read them!
