Today is my birthday...you know, the one whose pictures never appear in the blog (because I'm always taking them) and who never gets written about...usually. But today, I thought I'd share my laid-back day.
Our usual morning farm chores have to be done no matter what! Getting up early, assisting with the milking of the dairy cows, feeding the chickens, feeding the dogs, feeding the cats, cleaning the milking equipment, doing a load of wash from milking all happens BEFORE breakfast. During breakfast is when we usually exchange cards and presents on birthdays and this morning was no different. The boys had each drawn a birthday card for me. James and Jonathan had nice birthday pictures. Joshua's however, had a twist. Attached to his picture was a slip of paper showing a man and woman kissing with red hearts all around them. He explained that was my "ticket" to get a kiss from Papa
. He wants to be there when it happens!
I hadn't planned anything special on my day (if I don't plan it, it doesn't happen) but the boys knew they were off from homeschool and cleaning today. So they headed off after breakfast to check out the fishing in our east pasture, a pond they haven't been to before. With some unusual peace and quiet around the house, I thought of my two choices....watch a new DVD or call a friend. I chose the DVD first...it was about cooking and healthier eating and while I did get a few tidbits from it, I found it very relaxing to be able to watch what I wanted without any interruptions. Next I called my friend, Courtney. She's recently moved away to start her new adventure on farming with her family. She had sent me her new phone number, so it was the perfect opportunity to chat. We had so many things to catch up on and share....from raising Great Pyrenese puppies, to the best detergent on getting out farm manure, to raising chickens...yes, this is what farm wives spend their time on
.
The boys reported back to the house about lunch time...funny how those mealtimes always bring them back! After lunch, we played the game, "20 Questions", which is a bible game. Then it was time for the boys to head back out for their afternoon farm chores. Me...well, I'm sitting here writing this blog instead of starting supper!
I must admit I love a June birthday! The warm summer months always remind me of my birthdays at Camp Mystic, of which I spent many summers there. And I never will forget this special day for me was also special for my parents, for you see, I was born on their 1st year wedding anniversary. And, my husband's birthday always follows 7 days after mine, so I never forget his birthday
.
