The boys were the first out this morning, as usual, to prepare the barn for milking.  All at once, an excited Jonathan came to the back door yelling, "Flower's had her kittens!"  Our only female, a gray cat with white socks just over a year old, had given birth to 5 little ones.  Two of them are gray and three are calico.  One of the gray ones has Flower's markings, and the other gray one has the cutest white zig-zap stripe going down the middle of the back...reminds me of a lighting bolt.  We "think" both gray ones are males.  The three calico's are all slightly different, but take after their grandmother who was a calico.

As I reflected on the spiritual meaning of Easter morning, I couldn't help but see some similarities in the excitement of our morning and the excitement that Easter morning so long ago.  Good News was discovered and spread throughout by excited people who had seen the Lord, much like Jonathan spread the good news to us about what he had seen in the barn.  Both phrases echoed...."come and see"..."new life"..."new birth".

New life, new birth...may you celebrate our risen Lord this Easter and every day in your lives.

UPDATE ON KITTENS 4/17/10:

One of the calico's didn't live past 3 days.  It's face didn't look like a normal shape.  A very sad day when Jonathan discovered this kitten dead in the box.  In a desparate attempt, I tried to revive it by putting it on a heating pad in a warm bathroom (it had turned cold the previous night), thinking it may have gotten too cold.  But this kitten was not destined to live.  Jonathan solemnly and bravely buried it outside by himself.  The other 4 kittens are all doing very well.  They opened their eyes a few days ahead of the "book" schedule and have now started exploring their territory.  They are 13 days old today.  Already their little personalities are starting to show!
