The evening of March 11 was going normally, except Ted was an hour late and supper was almost ready. He had made the rounds delivering our "extra abundance" of milk and eggs to friends in surrounding communities and was headed home. Dusk was turning into evening quickly.
I and the boys were almost finished getting supper ready for the table when Ted finally pulled up...with the pickup screeching at the turn in the driveway. Joshua heard him first and yelled, "Something's wrong with Papa's pickup!" He coasted to a stop in front of the house. When he came through the door, he was visibly shooken up and said he'd be in an accident. He quickly explained that a herd of feral hogs was crossing the road when he hit some of them. He lost his brakes and power steering...anyone try to drive a one-ton dooley pickup with no way to steer or brake??? He was thankful he had gotten home....he was just 3 miles from home. He quickly grabbed the camera and took our other vehicle back to the scene to get pictures. He came back with the below pictures, plus his license plate. The other man in the picture...well, he was a fellow neighbor who had stopped to pick up the road kill to feed to his dogs
.

This female they estimated to be about 300 pounds.

Ted's pickup...well, it wasn't driveable. Joshua got a big thrill from seeing the tow truck haul the pickup onto the trailer bed. Our car insurance will pay for most of the damage, but in the meantime we're living on the farm without a pickup. We've gotten so used to having it, it's kinda strange now.
Ted - well, he did suffer some back injury. The chiropractor found bruises near his kidneys...from what we're still not sure. We think a few adjustments and therapy will take care of him.
