I admit, I'm not a big fan of mud, but if I were, I'd be in heaven right now!  I'm not sure how much rain we've gotten within the last week, but it started the day before Joshua's birthday when I was shopping in Wal-Mart.  I had just gotten in the store when I heard it let loose on the roof.  I knew then I'd be in there a while .  That day, we got 3" in less than 2 hours at the farm.  Roads were flooded on my way back home.  A couple of days later we got at least another inch or two.  After that, I lost track.  As of May 23, we've heard that we've gotten about 16"...even the locals are talking about it.

I don't mind the rain at all....but when you've got several low-lying areas at the farm, it can make for a real mess!  Our dogs are getting the brunt of it.  Their only shelter out of the rain is a covered area in the barn.  Unfortunately, it is the lowest lying area of their whole dog run AND it has a dirt floor....Ahem...which is now mud and sometimes is also several inches deep in water.  They woke us up Sunday morning about 3am.  They had no dry place left to sleep .

Before church time Sunday morning, Ted and the boys went out a dug a trench to drain the water out of their area.  Two hours later I had 3 very muddy people to clean!

In the afternoon, Ted and the boys built a platform so the dogs could get up off the mud floor and still have some shelter in the barn.  That project went together very smoothly and quickly.  Everybody gets to hammer.

We have started feeding the dogs on the platform, but when I went back to take a picture of them enjoying it, all I found was our male orange kitty, Sherbet, sitting on it.  The minute he saw me, he wanted to come to me...but of course he was surrounded by deep mud!  He cried with every step all the way to the fence!

After getting still more rain last night and a downpour this morning, the dog's area was even worse.  Ted decided to go purchase a water pump.  He and Jonathan got it installed at the end of the trench and within a short time had pumped out quite a bit of water.  The dog's area is still muddy, but at least it's not standing under water.

Now, if I could just get my boys to stop playing in the mud!!!  When we first moved in, the boys had a goal of digging a water well.  You can imagine how fun that is when it fills up with water!  Oh well...I'm praying my washing machine can take what it's getting right now!
