There's nothing like being able to really see progress after working hard on something!  Our garden fits that description perfectly.  We've worked & worked on our garden (or so it seems), and finally got some plants in today.

Here's Ted after we hand dug and turned over the soil & grass where our raised beds would go.  Test Plot #1 got turned over twice, while Test Plot #2 just got it once (Test Plot #3 is still in progress and hopefully it will get turned over twice).  According to Steve Solomon in his book, "Gardening When it Counts", turning over the grass a few times with several days apart takes care of most of the grass growing.  Hopefully.  We'll see

Here are two of the raised beds with chicken wire on the bottom and underneath is cardboard that will draw up the worms from the soil.  Joshua is wetting the cardboard to start the deteriotion process.  Worms LOVE cardboard....and we have plenty from the move!

Did we say the boys were getting tired???

Here are the boys spreading out the compost...

now it starts to get fun!

Putting in the plants...the REALLY fun stuff!  On the left, Jonathan is putting in his strawberry plants.  Below, Joshua and I are putting in tomato plants.  We've got corn, tomatoes, peppers and strawberries.  The third raised bed will hold cucumbers and maybe some other melons.

We have to show the GARDEN GATE!  I think it's kinda cute....it's so little compared to our huge gates in the pastures.  One of the few pics of me......guess who takes most of the pictues!
