With all the seriousness of an 8 yr old boy, Joshua (our youngest son) had a request to ask as I was tucking him into bed one evening. He opened up his heart and said he didn't think we were ever going to get a farm, (we have been talking and searching for at least 2 years) and he wanted Papa (Ted) & I to stop talking about it. I didn't know what to say in response - as how can one be absolutely sure about a path that God directs, but before there is any evidence?
We honored Joshua's request and didn't speak of the farm in his presence. Fortunately, we didn't have to be silent long. WIthin a week or two, God led us to a realtor in Fannin County, (northeast Texas) who knew of not just one property, but several we could afford. The first visit didn't pan out with anything that would work for us, but within days Doug was calling again with a property that had just fallen into our price range. Were we interested in making another 4 hr. round trip the next Saturday to take a look? You bet!
We got a sneak preview and description of the place (via the web) before we left and we could tell it was a real possibility, so we packed up the van with plenty of water, snacks and various entertainment options for the boys to last a full day (our visit the week prior had taught us to bring plenty of water and food, as there isn't much in this little town, and 3 hot boys can go through alot of water on a hot August Texas day!).
We spent most of the afternoon at this property, taking pictures and measurements and discussing where various pieces of furniture might fit, and how the land and buildings would fit into our farming scheme....while our ever-patient realtor kept the boys entertained outside with fun games, such as Huly Guly...anyone ever heard of this one?
The next few weeks was spent in contract negotiations. When we finally had a signed contract in hand, we felt like the search for land, that had taken the last several years, was finally over. Yippee!
